India’s first e-waste eco park is being developed in Holambi Kalan, Delhi, marking a significant step in the country’s efforts to manage electronic waste sustainably. The project aims to address the growing e-waste challenge by providing a scientific and environmentally friendly solution for recycling electronic waste.

Key Details:

• Location and Size: The eco park will be situated in Holambi Kalan, spanning approximately 11.4 acres. 
• Processing Capacity: It is designed to process up to 51,000 metric tonnes of e-waste annually, covering all 106 categories specified under the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022.
• Investment and Revenue: The Delhi government is investing ₹150 crore for the construction of the park, with an additional ₹325 crore allocated for its operation. The park is expected to generate over ₹350 crore in revenue. 
• Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model: The project will be developed under a PPP model, with a 15-year concession period. The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) will issue a global tender to invite top green technology partners for the construction and management of the park. 
• Construction Timeline: Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months, with the park projected to become operational by 2027. 
• Employment Opportunities: The eco park is anticipated to create over 1,000 green jobs, including positions in dismantling, refurbishing, plastic recovery, and second-hand electronics. 
• Environmental Impact: The initiative aims to formalize the recycling process, reducing the environmental hazards associated with informal e-waste handling and contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment.

This project not only addresses the pressing issue of e-waste management but also sets a precedent for other cities in India to adopt similar sustainable practices.
